Yovi Bay are the toast of the town upsetting Coburg in the 2010 TPC Grand Final.

The Pirates lead by, now first time premiership coach Ashley Dumesny, have secured their inaugural premiership in a bruising encounter over arch rival, the Adam Crewther lead Convicts by 7pts.

Yovi Bay who had failed to beat the Convicts in three attempts this season, saved the only triumph over Coburg until when it mattered most, which would have been the most painful part for the season dominant Crewther and his men to swallow.

Pirate captain Marc Murphy had struggled throughout the final series but stood up when it counted and was rewarded by taking home the GF Medal for his best on ground performance on the day. The surprise packet of the day was the late inclusion of defender Ted Richards who was playing only his fifth game for the season and his first since round 7.

For the losers, it was bad news from the outset, Captain Hodge and midfeilder Jobe Watson didn't come up. Hodge had missed before and the team had won well but it seemed the pressure of actually having to win the game, to overcome past demons and to silence critics was just too much for them.

Ruckman Ben Hudson was dominated at the stoppages by Yovi Bay Best and Fairest favorite Arron Sandilands who had missed 3 games leading up to the Grand Final. A question over his ability to come straight back in was always a roll of the dice for the Pirates. Coach Dumesny said "Hille has been very stiff to miss out, but Arron earned this spot over 20 odd games of consistent dominance, the bigger gamble was last week leaving him out when he was probably 90%, it ended up working out and we won last week and he was ready and raring this week and was stiff not to be BOG today."

Adam Crewther was optimistic after the game, congratulating his players on a great season and vowing to be back next year. While he put on a brave face for the fans, this one must have cut deep with the coach. The "Convict Collapse" which has become Coburg's trademark finishing move and will become harder and harder to overcome with every finals loss they suffer. Yes the injuries hit but all clubs had them, this was a mental failure, they had the team, the had the results, but they didn't have the belief, players need guidance, it's hard to sack a coach off the back of a Grand Final appearance but there might be a copy of "Player Motivation" and "How to win Finals" in his Christmas stocking this year.

Rumors of Crewther writing his memoirs titled "Wininng Finals Football is like trying to steer the Titanic out of an Ice Field", are unfounded but an unauthorized documentary of the same name is believed to be in pre production.

CONGRATULATIONS YOVI BAY, 2010.

WHAT THE COACHES SAID
I'm very proud of the boys.

We've gone from 7th to 5th to 1st (second after the GF) and have improved each and every season.

On the law of averages 2011 is our year.
What an effort, winning as the underdog is all the more sweet.

Some of our major ball winners sacrificed their game and personal glory to stick to our plan and now the all get rewarded for a brilliant season.

Teddy Richards (AKA Ted Hopkins) was amazing.
Adam Crewther (Coburg)
Ashley Dumesny (Yovi Bay)
